Providing Everything You Need

Introduction

Massage Therapy is the systematic and strategic manipulation of the body's soft tissues. In my practice, massage techniques are commonly applied with hands, fingers, elbows, and forearms only - no devices. I am insured for the following modalities, namely: Deep Muscle, Hydrotherapy, Joint mobilization, Manual Lymph Drainage, Myofascial Release, Pre and Post
Natal Massage, Relaxation Massage, Swedish Massage, Therapeutic Massage, and Trigger Point Release.

Beneficial effects:

  1. Peer-reviewed medical research has shown that the benefits of massage include
pain relief, reduced trait anxiety and depression, and temporarily reduced blood pressure, heart rate, and state of anxiety.[Moyer CA et.al., (January 2004)]

  2. Additional testing has shown an immediate increase and expedited recovery periods for muscle performance. [Dupuy O Et.al., (2018) PMID 29755363]

  3. Theories behind what massage might do include enhanced skeletal muscle regrowth and remodeling, [Miller BF et.al., (January 2018) PMID 29090454]

  4. Blocking nociception (gate control theory), [Chen L, Michalsen (April 2017) PMID28438745]

  5. Activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which may stimulate the release of endorphins and serotonin, preventing fibrosis[Bove GM et.al., (February 2016) PMID26810536] or scar tissue, increasing the flow of lymph, and improving sleep. ["Massage therapy as CAM" (NCCIH) September 2006] [Owais S et.al, (October 2018) PMID 29449122].

Relaxation Massage:

A relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle treatment that relieves muscular tension, increases circulation, and promotes a general sense of relaxation. This massage is performed using Swedish techniques consisting of long, rhythmic strokes and small circular movements which help to break down adhesions and promote better circulation.

Therapeutic Massage:

Therapeutic massage is an effective mode of treatment for injuries that occur during activities of daily living. These injuries may be the result of:

  • A specific trauma/injuries (i.e., athletic injury like sprain or strain; or motor vehicle accident like whiplash)
  • Overuse (i.e. tendinitis, plantar fasciitis, bursitis, and frozen shoulder)

  • Conditions developed over time (i.e., tension headaches, migraine, arthritis and fibromyalgia)

  • Postural dysfunction (i.e., pes planus (flat foot), scoliosis, iliotibial band contraction, hyperkyphosis, and hyperlordosis)

  • Work related. The clinic-CHMT recognizes the effect of desk or sedentary jobs. Desk jobs are what most of us have as a result of the digital age. Office workers in particular are notably vulnerable since they are sitting glued to their desk and computers most of their shift work. This type of work can be difficult on the body and lead to back pain, neck pain, and headaches, among other things if not taken care of properly. I may be of help with this situation and certainly love to hear from you.
